Harvard’s Caselaw Access Project: Digital Collection of Federal and State Cases

The Harvard Caselaw Access Project brings U.S. case law to the public making it freely accessible online. Through the Caselaw Access Project API (CAPAPI) and bulk data service, CAP is able to share over 40 million pages of published U.S. court cases.

In the past years (2013-2018) Harvard Law’s Library Innovation Lab in partnership with Ravel Law, has been digitizing their entire case law collection for the public to use for free. As a companion to the new database, the groups launched an API allowing users to create their own interface to access the database. In most recent news, a search functionality tool has been added to the database effectively bringing the entire database to the public for viewing.

To visit the case law collection go to the link below and register with the CAP API. Registration is free and once completed will unlock the full case details.

Search Harvard’s Case Law Collection >

Once you have accessed the search page you have the ability to filter cases by case name abbreviation, decision date, docket number, citation, reporter, court ID, and jurisdiction.
